Description

Lugia, the Diving Pokémon.
Conceptual Skeleton from fragmentary fossil records.
Lugia is a theropod, bird-like Pokémon, the fossil records date back approximately 80-90 million years ago, at the time the first bird Pokémon were starting to take to the skies with sustained flight. The few fossils remains we have of Lugia suggest a peculiar wing structure of partially fused phalanges with limited flexibility which were webbed and laid over with feathers, this suggests an evolutionary link with the Dratini evolutionary line, which shows the same webbed-feathered wings.

However it can be supposed that Lugia broke away from the pure dragons early on and lost its forelimbs, or the dragons, possibly due to a beneficial and localised mutation developed a hexapod mode of locomotion.

Lugia retains its ancestral teeth in the fossils, however modern day reports mention nothing of noticeable teeth and it is not known how far this scarce marine Pokémon has changed over the millennia.

The five phalanges making up the fingers of its wings can move independently to some degree, giving Lugia the classic appearance of having actual hands on the ends of its wings, a fallacy, as it can not use them like hands, which has appeared again and again in artwork throughout civilisation's history.

It typically swims using an up and down movement like a Wailord, however it has also been seen moving with more precision using its tail in a Feraligatr motion, kicking its legs and even using its wings to 'fly' through the water to gain speed.

interesting, but keeping its supposed vast intelligence and phycic abilities in mind, I always supposed it had a larger cranium
