Common Names: Pidgeotto, ピジョン (Pigeon), Tauboga, Roucoups, 比比鳥 (Bǐ Bǐ Niǎo), 比比鳥 (Bî Bî Nîao)

Scientific Name: Orniacroadustus Lophomajor
---Type: Animaero

Physiology: Pidgeotto have a height of 3 - 5ft (0.9 – 1.55m), and length of 3.5 - 6ft (1.1 – 1.8m), they have a wing span of 8.9 – 10.2 ft (2.7 – 3.1m) and a weight of 66.11lbs (30.0kg). They have retained the toe configuration of their Pidgey form, however show characteristics more closely related to Falconiformes than Passerines. Their legs are longer and they can no longer walk easily on the ground, instead adopting a sideways lope.
With each moult as the Pidgey enters its Pidgeotto form its crest becomes longer and of a uniform shade of orange-red, its tail feathers become barred: orange-red and yellow, otherwise it retains the same markings and colouration as its younger form: nape down to back and tail, mantle to and including secondary coverts are brown, ranging through rich chocolate brown, rusty reds and coppers and some even more dramatic colouration in secluded areas. The under belly, throat, secondaries and primaries, face and auxiliary areas are a paler buff with a rosier blush in variants. It develops a collar of brown; this collar is fragmentary or non-existent in alpine birds.
The chest is larger compared to the body in Pidgeotto than to Pidgey to support the growing wing muscles, its claws have grown into strong curved talons and its beak has curved and sharpened.

Physiological Gender Differences: Females are larger and heavier than males.

Range: Almost as widespread as Pidgey, but not as numerous, they are absent from Hoenn, but are common in the woods and fields in and around Pallet Town and Viridian Forest of Kanto, they are very rarely reported seen in the wild in Sinnoh, though Pidgey are numerous, this seems to be due to an easy living environment.

Habitat:   Pidgeotto prefer wooded areas, their short rounded wings give them the manoeuvrability to fly though the dense plant grown in pursuit of their prey, they are most common in Jhoto and Kanto.

Disposition and Behaviour: Male Pidgeotto often have very large territories, some ranging up to 60 miles or more, boundaries are patrolled regularly, these territories  rarely overlap as Pidgeotto are highly territorial and aggressive towards the presence of other Pidgeotto. Their territories usually contain the Pidgey flock they came from and they often roost together but they will prey on other flocks, suggesting a high level of recognition between the forms. Female Pidgeotto however are vagrants and seem to have no familial loyalties.
Pidgeotto will however put up with Fearow in their territories, presumably due to a difference in prey. Pidgeotto are not as mild as their smaller relatives and should be approached with caution, they are still curious however and Trainers have reported being followed by them.
Pidgeotto nest in trees and on cliff sides.

Call: Pidgeotto calls range from high pitched keening (courtship) to a drawn out trill. Young birds may still chirrup and a cornered or angered specimen may screech, otherwise Pidgeotto are considerably quieter than Pidgey and do not chatter.

Diet: Pidgeotto are omnivorous and will eat berries and some softer seeds, their beaks can no longer handle the larger ones, they still eat small insects and worms. They now actively hunt such things as Caterpie and small Rattata (Trainers have also reported Buneary and even Pikachu to be victim to Pidgeotto attacks, though the birds in question were also often shown to be larger and older, and the Pikachu small, probably young and inexperienced electricity users).

Life Cycle: Courtship starts as early as December and into July, so that the chicks are being raised when other Pokémon are also having their young: young Pidgey are hatched into a world where their parents can provide for them as easily as possible. The males call to any possible passing females, if any answer they will attempt to impress them, often with flying tricks and offerings of gifts. Males will usually have a few choice nest sites which they will use to try and entice the females.
Pidgeotto are typically monogamous for each given breeding season, as competing females will fight. The eggs are incubated for 10-12 days for the eggs to hatch, and a further 15-17 before the young Pidgey fledge, Pidgey hatched from Pidgeotto often closely resemble Pidgeotto until their first moult, possibly as protection from the female who may mistake them for a clumsy Pidgey of a different nest. Females leave shortly after the young have left the nest to avoid accidental predation. Pidgeotto rarely have more than one brood a year, but may have two if the first fails or is early enough for them to comfortably raise two.

Predation: Pidgeotto are more at risk from egg thieves than predators, though Persian, Absol, Lepardas have all be reported actively hunting for Pidgeotto.

Relationship with Humans:
Pidgeotto are more highly valued by Trainers than by families due to their poorer temperament and habit of flying off when they spot prey, however some are used as herding Pokémon, message carriers or are companions raised from Pidgey-hood.
A well known Trainer named Vladimir the Attacker (Ralph) living in Lilycove, Hoenn, has a Pidgeotto he uses to help teach Trainers and their Pokémon to use Arial Ace.
